Longmeadow Farm has belonged to the Shepard family for four generations, going on five. Today, Gary and Bobbie Shepard, and their daughter Erin operate a dairy farm. They have a herd of Holsteins and Jerseys, and fields of oats, hay, and corn. In 2011, the farm was permanently preserved with an Agricultural Preservation Restriction. Alford Land Trust played a supporting role in the process and as a result, 134 acres in the Alford Valley, including frontage on the Alford Brook, have been protected from future development. The conservation of Longmeadow Farm is particularly significant because it is the third farm on West Road in the Alford Valley to be put under an Agricultural Preservation Restriction. North of Longmeadow Farm is Twin Oaks Farm, owned by the Wilcox family, and north of that is Scribner Brook Farm, operated by Morven Allen.
